
Lily Yung received a Ph.D. in Immunology at University of Alberta, where she also studied printmaking. She began making jewellery in 1986. In 1994 she started using textile techniques, wires & beads in her exquisite jewellery. Lily exhibited in Canada & internationally. She won numerous awards in both printmaking & jewellery. This year
Lily received the highly respected Mather Award for lifetime achievement in craft. A founding member of Toronto artist-run fine craft gallery, *new*, she was also co-editor of NewViews, a series of notes & reviews about Canadian craft practice.
One of two 2003 recipients of an Artist-in-Residence for Research Grant from Canada
Council for the Arts, Lily worked with the National Research Council Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Institute in London, Ontario developing a customization system where uniqueness is preserved, while high level output is maintained. Her exploration included use of computer aided design/manufacture, to
fabricate one-of-a-kind jewellery & home ornaments.
Lily passed away August 10, 2010, having curated & guided this exhibition. She is dearly missed.
